Verse HK: Chorus Pre Chorus

Exhibition Design. Placemaking.

This is an exhibition that illustrates the rise and fall of Cantopop in Hong Kong. It aims to evoke memories and bring attention to the forgotten talents of the music industry from the city. Together, we can help bring back the abandoned voices from the past twenty years, retelling the stories of our creatives to once again create a successful music industry.

The exhibition is divided into three parts: The Golden Era, Disconnected Voices, and Awakening.

The Golden Era displays artifacts from the late 1900’s, when Cantopop made a remarkable history in Hong Kong and other Asian countries.

Disconnected Voices consists of an empty large white room with a lifesize seating pyramid in the middle. Attached along the walls and on each seat are audio jacks with no description, where they invite guests to plug their earphones in and listen to the music created by artists in the 2000’s and 2010’s.

Awakening shows a series of photos, posters, media clips, and writings from music talents in the past ten years. This is an opportunity for guests to learn about individuals who have been creating music in the city, and their dreams in bringing Cantopop back into the market.
